The Department of Animal Science provides advanced degree programs focused on areas including animal genetics and breeding, nutrition for both ruminant and non-ruminant species, physiology, and meat/poultry science. Students have access to modern analytical labs and specialized animal research facilities. These state-of-the-art resources support fundamental and practical research involving large animals, poultry, and laboratory specimens. The department operates a comprehensive, federally approved meat processing lab dedicated to poultry and meat science investigations. Furthermore, research facilities located 40 minutes from Lincoln enable studies across beef and dairy cattle, swine, and sheep disciplines. Graduate research initiatives involve partnerships with four university-affiliated research centers and the USDA Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska.
