Horticulture combines scientific knowledge and artistic expression in cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, decorative plants, and turf to improve our surroundings and expand food variety. These specialized crops often involve small-scale, carefully managed production demanding considerable expertise. Numerous horticultural plants are cultivated for their visual appeal and leisure purposes. Nebraska's horticulture program presents students with five specialization choices: plant and landscape systems, business ventures, landscape design and maintenance, specialty crop cultivation, or a customized track. Any option can incorporate a Science focus (4-17 credits), though this entails extra foundational science coursework and research components to ready students for advanced studies and research-oriented professions.
