Our doctoral program in Forestry and Conservation Sciences prepares students to engage in the science, policy and management of all types of ecosystems, from forests to aquatic environments in tropical, temperate and boreal regions. An overarching goal of the program is to foster sustainability and empower a holistic understanding of social-ecological systems. Students develop expertise in a specific area of interest through hands-on mentorship by their faculty advisor, in-depth coursework and original research in the social, physical, chemical and biological factors affecting ecological systems and their management. The program also aims to develop the professional capacity of students and provides opportunities to teach undergraduate courses, participate in professional conferences and engage in professional service.
