The University of Montana's School of Music is a vibrant hub for musicians, composers, teachers, and analytical minds, representing the finest aspects of UM. Whether you're launching your musical career or exploring creative paths, our school provides the perfect environment through numerous ensembles, performance options, varied coursework, and distinguished faculty. Currently, all university performances, lectures, and major gatherings are either canceled or postponed indefinitely, including activities within our academic departments, Montana Repertory Theatre shows, and events at the Montana Museum of Art and Culture and Montana Media Lab. Some events may shift to virtual formats when possible, while rescheduling remains uncertain for others.
Each year, the UM School of Music educates hundreds of music majors and minors while engaging thousands of students and local musicians. As a pioneer in music instruction, performance, and composition, we boast faculty with national and global recognition alongside accomplished students. Our comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs hold accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music. The school proudly hosts the All-Star Band, Choir & Orchestra, Grizzly Marching Band, Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival, Vienna Program, UM Summer Music Camps, and other notable initiatives.
