a. Successful applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree in education before beginning the master's
program.
Grade Point Average
a. Minimum of 3.0 on 4.0 scale
b. Students whose total undergraduate GPA and major GPA are between 2.75 and 2.99 may be admitted on a
restricted basis except in the following circumstances:
i. Admission requires GPAs of 2.75 or better in
1. a) the undergraduate major field,
2. b) education coursework, and
3. c) overall.
ii. Students with GPAs below 2.75 may submit supportive evidence and letters of recommendation. Students
entering with GPAs below 2.75 are admitted on restricted status and required to obtain a 3.0 graduate GPA
in their first 12 graduate hours.
Entrance examinations
a. There are no entrance exams for domestic students.
b. International students are required to document English proficiency by providing scores from an internationally
accepted standardized examination before a decision is made on admission.
Letters of recommendation
a. May be invited for applicants who do not meet the normal criteria for admission.
Those interested in pursuing this degree must meet prerequisites including a minimum 3 years of successful PK-12 teaching experience in a school system (which may contain experience from another state and/or private, public, parochial, independent or charter school), a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in your undergraduate studies and apply for admission to the Graduate School at UMSL.
