The 12-credit-hour graduate certificate in analytical chemistry equips students with essential skills to excel in expanding fields like environmental sample analysis, food quality assurance, and pharmaceutical/cosmetic product testing. Analytical chemists also contribute to clinical settings by developing diagnostic assays, ensuring regulatory compliance, and assisting legal proceedings. This program mandates three analytical chemistry lecture courses. Research credits toward the certificate must involve experimental analytical techniques within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, either within a single research group or across multiple groups. All coursework adheres to Graduate School policies, with three required courses for all participants.
At least three courses must be completed at UMSL, including all research credits. Course substitutions require approval from the certificate coordinator. Prospective students can obtain additional details by contacting the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Admission to the Certificate program requires meeting UMSL Graduate School standards. Chemistry M.S. candidates automatically qualify but must submit a separate certificate application. Participants must sustain a 3.0 GPA throughout the program. The certificate is conferred upon finishing 12 specified credit hours, with students required to formally apply for certification. Undergraduate coursework cannot be reused or counted toward certificate requirements.
