Actuaries apply principles from economics, finance, and mathematics to assess and quantify risk. They work across various sectors including insurance providers, retirement funds, advisory services, and other financial organizations. The actuarial field is frequently recognized among the top career choices for job satisfaction and stability. Aspiring actuaries must meet specific academic criteria, successfully pass Society of Actuaries examinations, and fulfill professional training requirements.
The Actuarial Studies Certificate program equips students with foundational knowledge for starting careers in this field. Graduates will fulfill portions of the Society of Actuaries' educational experience validation and gain preparation for the initial two professional exams (P and FM).
To earn the certificate, students must complete the following coursework. Note that several courses have prerequisites, so candidates should consult closely with academic advisors when planning their studies.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the program, certificate holders will demonstrate the ability to:
Analyze, structure, and resolve practical issues in probability and statistical analysis.
Evaluate, model, and address mathematical challenges concerning annuities, fixed-income securities, and derivative instruments.
