The department's Bachelor of Science program is accredited by the American Chemical Society. Both chemistry and biochemistry track students who complete the B.S. program receive ACS certification. This professional chemistry degree equips graduates for careers in the chemical industry or advanced chemistry studies. Undergraduates have opportunities to participate in active research projects. The Bachelor of Arts with a biochemistry focus is particularly designed for pre-health students, including those pursuing medical, dental, or pharmacy studies.
Graduate programs leading to Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degrees are available, with most classes held in the evenings. Students can complete the M.S. degree through either thesis or non-thesis options. The non-thesis path offers working professionals a flexible route to earn an advanced degree. Additionally, the department provides a professional science M.S. option without thesis requirements, incorporating business coursework and internship experience.
Graduate research for M.S. theses or Ph.D. dissertations focuses on five specialization areas: analytical, inorganic, organic, physical chemistry, or biochemistry. The program's structure ensures personalized guidance from research advisors and practical training with the department's major instrumentation.
