The Water Resources specialization is an interdisciplinary graduate program offered by the School of Natural Resources. It integrates all natural science disciplines within the School and collaborates with experts across the University of Missouri and other institutions. Faculty involved in this program focus on both the scientific study of water systems (biological, chemical, and physical aspects) and their management, along with policy frameworks for balancing societal needs (social, economic, and legal considerations). While the program has a global scope, MU's location means much research focuses on water dynamics, biogeochemical cycles, and ecological processes in the midcontinent's forests, farmlands, and urban areas. The region's lakes, rivers, wetlands, and groundwater systems serve as key sites for fundamental and practical research. A significant global contribution is preparing skilled graduates capable of tackling complex water resource challenges worldwide.
