This program provides students with specialized training in mathematical areas commonly applied in real-world scenarios. To graduate, students must complete 30 credit hours of approved coursework, including a minimum of 15 credits at the 8000-level. Required courses include Math 8420 and 8440, along with either 8190 or 8090. Math 8445 and 8480 are recommended electives. At least three credit hours must be taken outside the mathematics department. Prerequisites (which may include undergraduate coursework) involve one year of advanced calculus plus approved courses in linear algebra, numerical analysis, and either mathematical statistics or probability. Courses 7100, 7110, 7140, and 7510 cannot be counted toward degree requirements. Students must complete either a Master's Project (Math 8190) or Thesis (Math 8090), evaluated by a committee of three mathematics faculty members.
