The Truman School fosters excellence in governance research and application across Missouri, nationally, and globally. Our MPA Program cultivates ethical leaders from diverse backgrounds for public, nonprofit, and private sector roles. Leveraging the Truman School's interdisciplinary resources, university-wide expertise, and practitioner insights, the program equips students with multifaceted perspectives that enhance public service ideals and democratic engagement. Through rigorous coursework, students master policy analysis, management fundamentals, and critical thinking skills essential for thriving in evolving public service careers.
Our objectives include:
Delivering a robust curriculum of core and specialized courses that establish theoretical expertise in public affairs while developing analytical capabilities and practical problem-solving skills for real-world policy challenges.
Incorporating immersive, hands-on learning opportunities with public and nonprofit organizations throughout the program.
Embedding public service principles across all coursework and creating avenues for applying these values in practical settings.
Fostering appreciation for diversity through exposure to distinguished scholars, government/nonprofit professionals, and international peers who embody public service ideals.
Equipping students with analytical tools to assess, develop, and implement solutions for complex issues affecting all sectors of society.
The 36-credit MPA program offers both on-campus and fully online completion options. Qualified applicants with 3-5 years of relevant public service experience may receive up to six credits toward internship and capstone requirements. Interested candidates should include a career eligibility statement with their application; admitted students will receive detailed instructions for credit consideration.
