Statistics is a contemporary field focused on drawing conclusions and making judgments from real-world data that contains randomness and uncertainty. It involves planning studies, conducting surveys, condensing numerical findings, creating and evaluating predictive models, forecasting outcomes, and selecting optimal strategies. Statistical analysis reveals comparative risks like air travel versus driving, calculates lottery probabilities, estimates lifespan projections, and predicts electoral outcomes.

Given its value as a research methodology, there's increasing need for qualified statisticians across academia, healthcare, public sector, commerce, manufacturing, and scientific disciplines including life sciences, social sciences, and physics. MU's Statistics Department dedicates itself to preparing both bachelor's and advanced degree students to fulfill these professional requirements and pursue academic or investigative careers.
