Students who successfully finish this curriculum will qualify for both a Juris Doctor (JD) from the School of Law and a Master of Health Administration (MHA) from the Department of Health Management and Informatics. The combined program typically takes four years to finish, with three years needed for the JD requirements and two years for the MHA.
To earn the JD, students must complete 83 law credit hours plus six MHA credits. The MHA requires 54 credit hours in Health Management and Informatics courses. The School of Law allows six Health Administration credits to count toward the JD. Students can receive up to three Law School Research (5875) credits for completing HMI 8450 (Methods of Health Services Research), provided a law faculty member approves and grades the work. HMI 8574 (Health Care Law) may count toward law credits if the student hasn't taken LAW 5615 (Health Care Law: The Doctor-Patient Relationship). The Health Management department accepts Law School credits for its Professional Electives. Alternatively, students may take LAW 5615 or LAW 5616 (Health Care Organization and Finance Law) instead of HMI 8574.
