The Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education equips students for academic roles as teacher-scholars in music education, for positions as conductors with a dedication to both performance and pedagogical research, or for leadership roles as expert educators or music administrators in K-12 settings. Candidates should hold music teaching certification, possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in music education, and demonstrate a minimum of three years' classroom teaching experience—or provide documentation of comparable qualifications. While applicants with higher education teaching backgrounds but lacking K-12 experience may apply, they must fulfill prerequisite coursework and practical training in elementary and secondary school environments before undertaking comprehensive exams.
