Continuing Missouri's legacy of excellence in informatics education and research, the doctoral program brings together 43 faculty members from 14 departments across seven schools and colleges. These include Animal Sciences, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Family and Community Medicine, Geology, Health Management and Informatics, Industrial & Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Information Science and Learning Technologies, Life Sciences, Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, Nursing, Pathology & Anatomical Sciences, and Physics, collectively forming the Institute for Data Science and Informatics (MUIDSI). The Institute features specialized tracks in bioinformatics and health informatics, with each concentration focusing on relevant skills and research within these informatics subfields. All students begin with a core curriculum covering essential knowledge in biology, computer science, healthcare systems, and statistics before advancing to specialized courses in their selected track. This comprehensive approach ensures wide-ranging understanding of the discipline while encouraging novel research ideas and discoveries.
