We appreciate your interest in pursuing graduate studies with the University of Missouri's Chemistry Department. Founded in 1839, the University of Missouri (MU) in Columbia serves as the flagship institution of the University of Missouri System. Our Chemistry PhD program boasts a rich history spanning more than a century, with the first doctoral degrees awarded in 1909.
Our graduate students tackle pioneering research challenges utilizing advanced facilities, featuring NMR, mass spectrometry, materials characterization, X-ray crystallography, and more. The Department comprises about 25 faculty members and over 90 graduate students. Research teams focus on fundamental chemistry disciplines like analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, while also exploring interdisciplinary areas such as radiochemistry, functional materials, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, astrochemistry, catalysis, archaeometry, nuclear forensics, radiopharmaceuticals, bioimaging, chemical sensors, bioinorganic chemistry, green chemistry, sustainability chemistry, environmental chemistry, and surface science.
