This 18-credit certificate equips undergraduate students with essential skills for entering the financial planning field and qualifying for the rigorous Certified Financial Planner exam, which grants permission to use the CFP designation. The curriculum builds both theoretical understanding and practical expertise in investment strategies, insurance, tax planning, retirement solutions, and estate management. Students lacking extensive business coursework should strongly consider enrolling in FINPLN 2183 (Personal and Family Finance) as a foundation.
Every certificate course mandates a minimum grade of C (2.0). The Certificate in Personal Financial Planning cannot be pursued by students already earning a B.S. in Personal Financial Planning. These six specialized courses fulfill the educational prerequisites for taking the national CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification examination.
