This program offers a Bachelor of Science in Education focused on secondary education with a specialization in social studies. Upon completing the teacher certification requirements, you'll receive state certification to teach social studies for grades 9-12.

Foundational Stage
Academic Studies
During the Foundational Stage, you'll primarily fulfill general education requirements while beginning introductory social studies courses such as political science or western civilizations.
Education courses through the College of Education & Human Development emphasize teaching methodologies for diverse developmental stages. These explore how cultural, political, historical, and economic factors impact students, educators, and educational institutions.
Practical Training
The Foundational Stage includes these hands-on experiences:
Sixteen hours of classroom-based work assisting students individually and in small groups under teacher guidance.
Twenty hours of community service through organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters or Granny's House.
