The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) on-campus program offered by the College of Arts and Science (A&S) caters to students who, after completing three or more semesters, discover their academic aspirations extend beyond a single field. The BGS curriculum enables learners to create a customized, interdisciplinary major aligned with their unique educational objectives.
Students who have earned 45+ credit hours often choose BGS for multiple purposes: completing their degree efficiently, meeting job qualifications, advancing their careers, personal growth, or preparing for graduate studies. Those who face challenges entering competitive MU programs or have changed majors frequently find BGS appealing, as it lets them apply previous coursework toward new academic interests.
The BGS program mandates at least 120 credit hours, with a minimum of 30 at the 3000-level or higher. Participants must fulfill all University graduation criteria, including general education and BGS-specific requirements. Notably, BGS students aren't obligated to complete foreign language coursework.
