Sport and Exercise Psychology examines the mental states, emotions, and behaviors of individuals engaged in physical activities across various domains including competitive athletics, fitness programs, sports medicine, physical education, and health initiatives. Researchers in this field investigate the psychological, emotional, behavioral, and social factors that shape how participants interact with different activity environments. The Physical Activity and Sport Science research division facilitates interdisciplinary studies and community programs in this field, housing specialized teams such as the Sports Medicine Psychology Lab (SMPL), the Youth Physical Activity Development research collective, and the Tucker Center focused on studying female athletes.
