The CEMS Department provides two master's degree options: the MSChE (available as Plan A or C) and the professional MChE degree. The MSChE Plan A is a thesis-oriented program primarily designed for current graduate students not pursuing a PhD. Professionals seeking part-time graduate studies can pursue either the MChE degree (requiring a design project) or the coursework-only MSChE Plan C. CEMS research initiatives concentrate on renewable energy advancement, medical and biological engineering solutions, innovative materials creation, and complex mathematical modeling. Graduate coursework encompasses fundamental chemical engineering subjects (fluid dynamics, applied mathematics including linear/nonlinear analysis, transport phenomena, chemical and statistical thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and reactor analysis) along with essential materials science topics (material structure/symmetry, thermodynamics/kinetics, electronic characteristics, and mechanical properties). Specialized offerings include biochemical engineering, biological transport systems, food technology, colloid science, mass transfer principles, rheology, coating fundamentals, process automation, computational finite element methods, ceramics/polymers science, materials development, corrosion studies, polymer chemistry/lab work, material fracture analysis, electron microscopy, thin film technology, composite materials, electrochemical systems, polymer physical chemistry, solid-state kinetics, electronic material structure, organic electronics, electronic ceramics, crystal defects, epitaxial growth techniques, and porous media science.
