Renowned globally for its expertise in psychological measurement applications and theory, the Quantitative/Psychometric Methods program unites the expertise of core and affiliated faculty members. Students can focus on one or multiple psychometric specialties, such as multivariate techniques including factor analysis, structural equation modeling, item response theory, computerized adaptive testing, multi-dimensional data analysis, and nonparametric approaches. The program actively promotes collaborative research with multiple faculty throughout your academic journey. Affiliated faculty specialize in methodological and applied challenges across cognitive assessment (encompassing ability, aptitude, and achievement measurement), psychopathology evaluation, personality assessment, and preference measurement. The QPM curriculum equips students for careers in research, academia, and technical fields, providing investigative techniques to create novel approaches for psychological measurement challenges and analyzing psychological transformations. The program addresses the conversion of psychological observations into quantitative data through instrument development, innovative scaling techniques, reliability/validity assessment, and diverse psychometric modeling methods. We foster strong ties with the School of Statistics, enabling many students to concurrently earn an MS in statistics. Note: The QPM program does not admit students seeking only an MA degree.
