Exercise Physiology explores how physical activity impacts the body's systems and overall health, investigating both short-term and long-term effects. This field applies core principles of human energy systems and biomechanics to exercise, sports, physical effort, and wellness initiatives. The curriculum covers how regular movement contributes to health maintenance while helping prevent and manage conditions like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and bone disorders. At the graduate level, learners develop skills to address physiological challenges related to muscle function and adaptation. Hands-on training occurs in specialized facilities including the Integrative Human Physiology Lab and Human Performance Teaching Lab under Professor Donald Dengel's guidance, the Physiological Hygiene and Exercise Science Lab led by Professor Li Li Ji, and Dr. Sarah Greising's Skeletal Muscle Plasticity and Regeneration Lab. This specialization maintains robust collaborations with various university departments spanning healthcare professions, public health sciences, and behavioral studies.
