The PhD program in epidemiology prepares students for careers in health sciences research and education. Candidates choose between two specialized pathways: clinical/biological epidemiology (CBE) or social/behavioral epidemiology (SBE). Both tracks require at least 61 credits and concentrate on sophisticated epidemiological approaches, research methods, and data analysis techniques. The social/behavioral track examines how human behaviors emerge and evolve, shaped by individual traits, family dynamics, cultural contexts, and environmental factors. The clinical/biological track investigates disease causes, with particular attention to cardiovascular conditions, cancer, genetic factors, and infectious diseases.
The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.00.
Applicants must be in process, or have completed, a master's degree in a related field.
English Language Proficiency Requirements: TOEFL iBT – 100; IELTS Academic – 7.0; MELAB – 80; Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic) – 59; Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) C1 Advanced – 180.
Students begin their studies in the fall semester. Applications must be completed by December 1 of the year prior to beginning the doctoral program for scholarship consideration; the final deadline is February 1.
