Established in 1930, the Inter-College Program (ICP) reflects the University of Minnesota's dedication to personalized undergraduate learning through cross-college, credit-based degree opportunities. By leveraging course offerings from nearly all University colleges and departments, students can create either a bachelor of arts (BA) or bachelor of science (BS) degree that combines substantial coursework from at least two different colleges within the University. BS degrees typically focus on physical or biological sciences, involve rigorous quantitative or research methodologies, or have strong applied/professional elements (such as public health, education, business, or social work). Many students develop degrees combining two or three academic disciplines across the University, such as sustainability studies, communication studies with HECUA, or Carlson School of Management programs in manufacturing operations and applied economics. Health and Wellness serves as another common focus area for students preparing for professional healthcare careers requiring patient care prerequisites. ICP best suits motivated learners whose academic goals and career aspirations demand both a well-defined direction and adaptable interdisciplinary study. Prospective students are encouraged to attend weekly information sessions where advisors offer comprehensive program overviews and assist with initial planning steps.
