Fashion design students acquire skills in creating, manufacturing, and promoting clothing and wearable items by cultivating innovative problem-solving abilities and technical proficiency to tackle modern challenges. They master industry-standard tools, effectively convey design concepts, and develop insights into the worldwide fashion sector. The curriculum blends bespoke creation with mass production techniques, equipping designers to craft items that balance aesthetic appeal with practicality. Emphasis is placed on a research-driven design methodology prevalent across design fields, with coursework integrating real-world collaborations and civic engagement initiatives. Studio classes mirror the actual workflows of professional fashion designers. Alongside a comprehensive liberal arts foundation, the program covers crucial studies in historical costume, buyer psychology, and the societal significance of clothing. Mandatory internships and mentorship opportunities give students hands-on industry exposure. A yearly runway event showcases student work to industry professionals.
Student are required to have a high school graduation
A GPA above 2.0 is preferred for the following: 2.50 already admitted to the degree-granting college; 2.50 transferring from another University of Minnesota college; 2.50 transferring from outside the University
English Language Proficiency Requirements: TOEFL iBT – 79; IELTS Academic – 6.5; Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic) – 59; Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) C1 Advanced – 180.
Application Deadline for Fall: For freshmen international students the deadlines are November 1 (early action 1 deadline), December 1 (early action 2 deadline) and January 1 (regular deadline)
