The College of Liberal Arts provides a bachelor of arts (BA) in Environmental Geosciences, managed by the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences within the College of Science and Engineering, which additionally offers a bachelor of science (BS). To clarify any confusion, we outline the commonalities and distinctions between these two paths.
Both the BA and BS present equal academic rigor. They share identical major coursework, with students from both programs attending classes together, and the prerequisite courses for entering the major are the same for both.
Admission processes differ between the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Science & Engineering, meaning acceptance into one college does not guarantee entry into the other.
The degree structures vary slightly. The BA offers greater flexibility for pursuing diverse interests, providing room in the degree plan for both breadth and depth, while the BS program enables students to take more physics and technical courses.
