Students conceive, develop, evaluate, and implement physical computing systems that engage with both natural and human surroundings. They explore robotics and its societal impact, integrating knowledge from diverse engineering disciplines such as computer science, mechanical design, AI, machine vision, electrical systems, automation technologies, human-machine interfaces, and biomedical applications. Our curriculum enables students to synthesize knowledge from these areas to construct robotic devices and associated technologies. Michigan Robotics provides both Master's and Doctoral programs. These share foundational coursework, with PhD candidates additionally conducting publishable research in top robotics publications. These systems operate on physical spaces and objects to generate movement or other responses that allow robots to navigate or interface with their surroundings.
