This program equips students to safeguard, rehabilitate, and develop both artificial and natural systems that maintain social, environmental, and economic sustainability. Offered in collaboration with the University of Michigan's College of Engineering, it features three ESS focus areas: sustainable energy systems, sustainable design, and sustainable water resources. Graduates earn dual master's degrees - an MS in Environment and Sustainability alongside an MSE. Addressing 21st century challenges like climate change, energy security, ecosystem decline, health-threatening pollution, and resource shortages requires balancing societal demands with economic and environmental realities. This dual-degree program provides the essential skills to tackle these pressing issues. Students develop expertise in preserving, renewing, and establishing engineered and natural systems that achieve sustainability across social, ecological, and financial dimensions. Alumni gain the engineering and sustainability knowledge to pursue careers worldwide with engineering consultancies, R&D facilities (including major corporations), government bodies, and non-governmental organizations.
