Robots are advancing from fixed-position manufacturing tools to versatile mobile systems capable of gathering data, processing information, and making autonomous decisions. The DARPA Grand Challenges demonstrated both the remarkable achievements and ongoing challenges in autonomous vehicle development. Our research at the University of Michigan focuses on developing feedback control systems for bipedal robot movement, aiming to achieve human-like walking agility in machines. Additionally, we employ AI methods to address navigation planning, uncertainty management, location tracking, environmental mapping, sensor data interpretation, and adaptive learning processes.
