The M.A. program caters to University of Michigan students enrolled in professional programs or academic degrees outside philosophy who would benefit from graduate-level philosophical training. Admission is typically restricted to these students, with exceptions granted only under special circumstances as evaluated by the admissions committee post-deadline. Those wishing to transition from the M.A. to Ph.D. program must complete the standard application process, competing equally with all other applicants without preferential treatment. Accepted Ph.D. students may petition to have their M.A. coursework count toward doctoral requirements, though this isn't guaranteed.
