This program enables students to deepen their understanding of ancient languages and cultures through either a Greek or Latin Master of Arts degree. The MA curriculum includes (a) six to seven advanced courses in the chosen language and (b) a sight translation assessment. Students proficient in both Latin and Greek enjoy some flexibility: those pursuing Greek may include up to two Latin courses, while Latin students may incorporate up to two Greek courses. Additionally, participants are strongly advised to acquire proficiency in German along with either French or Italian. For comprehensive information about the Greek and Latin MA programs, please visit the Classical Studies Department's website.
Applicants for the MA in Latin should have completed three years of college Latin (two years if the language was begun in high school).
Applicants complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association; or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
