Urban informatics is a multidisciplinary domain focused on leveraging information technology to study, govern, design, inhabit, and enhance urban environments. The Graduate Certificate in Urban Informatics provides students with foundational knowledge in this area, covering both technical competencies for tech development and data interpretation, along with examining the ethical, legal, and policy challenges posed by emerging urban technologies. The program emphasizes key interconnected fields of professional advancement in Urban Analysis. With the surge in publicly and privately available data sources, urban entities are increasingly employing analysts to perform practical data assessments. Numerous governmental bodies, nonprofits, and consulting firms now engage in diverse analytical tasks, including developing metrics for neighborhood transformation, evaluating the effects of renewal strategies, and improving data accessibility for community groups.
Applicants complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association; or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
