Discussions about land use policies, eco-friendly growth, urban expansion, neighborhood planning, and their financial impacts on cities engage nearly every local government across the country and internationally. The resurgence of American urban centers and the transformation of certain suburban areas reflect significant shifts in property development following years of car-dependent suburban construction. Yet while the U.S. adapts to evolving market trends, numerous developing nations are replicating America's 20th-century automobile-centric suburban blueprint. Most professionals shaping metropolitan growth—including planners, attorneys, executives, and architects—lack deep insight into the intricacies of real estate projects. Their ability to enhance development practices falls short of its potential. Those specializing in individual disciplines like business, law, or city planning could better craft communities that improve living standards across income levels while protecting ecosystems if they received interdisciplinary training.
