For nearly 45 years, the Macromolecular Science & Engineering Program (Macro) at the University of Michigan has stood at the forefront of polymer science and engineering. Based in the top-ranked College of Engineering, our cross-disciplinary initiative collaborates with students and faculty across the Medical School, Dental School, and College of Literature, Science, & the Arts. With 34 dedicated faculty members applying polymer expertise to diverse fields, their research spans polymer synthesis, microfluidics, tissue engineering, sensors, computational nanoscience, mechanical properties, and nanoelectronics. Our faculty primarily come from Engineering disciplines (Aerospace, Biomedical, Chemical, Electrical, Materials Science, and Mechanical) as well as the Dental School and Chemistry Department. As an interdisciplinary program, Macro welcomes students with backgrounds across engineering and scientific fields. Our current cohort includes graduates from various engineering specialties along with chemistry, biology, and physics.
Applicants complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association; or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
