The program's primary goal is to cultivate exceptional researchers capable of securing positions in leading global academic finance departments. Finance PhD candidates at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business benefit from working with an extensive, engaged, and collaborative finance faculty representing varied research specialties. The department allocates substantial resources to the doctoral program, understanding that maintaining an elite PhD program is essential for fostering a premier research environment. With intentionally limited enrollment, students enjoy meaningful faculty engagement. Faculty research encompasses all finance disciplines. For instance, studies conducted by Ross finance professors and PhD alumni on mortgage markets, financial institutions, and shadow banking have yielded crucial understanding about the causes of the recent financial crisis and its devastating economic impacts. Current faculty research also explores corporate governance structures, board responsibilities, corporate investment strategies, investor decision-making patterns, market liquidity and asset valuation, and international financial systems.
