The Clinical Science program at the University of Michigan focuses on educating future clinical psychologists to develop translational research that enhances mental health and reduces psychological disorders. Our approach treats clinical practice as a scientific discipline, aiming to build the empirical basis for ethical and impactful psychological care. These goals are reflected in four core tenets. First, we prioritize research training focused on understanding causes, evaluation methods, and treatments for psychological distress and disorders. Second, we emphasize ethical, high-quality clinical practice grounded in scientific evidence. Third, we prepare students to become skilled educators. Fourth, we maintain that cultural factors, environmental contexts, and individual/group differences must always be central considerations in clinical research, practice, and education.
