The accelerating progress at the intersection of physics with fields like engineering and medicine demands interdisciplinary education and research that conventional single-discipline graduate programs often can't provide. The University of Michigan's Applied Physics Program bridges this divide, equipping students with a strong foundation in contemporary physics while allowing them to investigate practical applications across engineering disciplines, biomedical sciences, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental studies, resource management, and policy. This collaborative initiative involves the Physical Science Division of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, the College of Engineering, Medical School, School of Public Health, and School of Natural Resources, culminating in a Ph.D. in Applied Physics. The curriculum and research opportunities are tailored to individual aspirations, making the program ideal for those pursuing careers in research, corporate sectors, academia, or public service.
