The Biology Program provides eight distinct majors, spanning specializations from cellular and molecular biology to ecology and evolutionary studies. New students at U-M don't need to choose a major immediately. Exploring multiple biology courses often helps identify your preferred area within the biological sciences. For those pursuing a biology degree, starting prerequisite courses early and consulting a major advisor during your first or second year is highly advised to develop an academic plan. The Ecology, Evolution, & Biodiversity (EEB) major delivers a thorough grounding in biology, emphasizes hands-on research, and offers a unified understanding of Earth's biodiversity and ecosystems. It examines biological systems across various scales—from genes to ecosystems—and through different timeframes. This major prepares students for diverse careers, including advanced studies in biology, healthcare fields, conservation, education, government roles, NGO work, and private sector positions like environmental consulting.
