The Biology, Health, and Society (BHS) major is ideal for students seeking a comprehensive understanding of biology and its societal connections, whether in healthcare, education, or environmental fields. This program suits pre-health students and those aiming for professional schools (like law) or careers where scientific literacy is valuable. BHS pairs effectively with non-science disciplines in a dual major. Unlike other Biology majors, it has fewer credit requirements, reduced lab work, and broader subject coverage. The Program in Biology provides eight specialized majors, spanning from cellular/molecular biology to ecology and evolution. New U-M students don't need to immediately choose a specific major - exploring various biology courses can help identify your interests. For those pursuing biological sciences degrees, starting prerequisite courses early and consulting an advisor during your first or second year is highly advised to develop an academic plan.
