The Secondary Mathematics Teaching Certificate program offers comprehensive training in mathematics to prepare educators for teaching grades 7 through 12. Students can fulfill the requirements for this certificate while pursuing degrees from either the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (A.B., B.S., or B.G.S.) or the School of Education (A.B. Ed. or B.S. Ed.). While the major requirements remain consistent across these degrees, LSA and Education programs have slightly different language and distribution criteria. LSA degree seekers must complete a minimum of 104 LSA credits and 30 Education credits. Note that the LSA B.S. degree mandates 60 credits in physical/natural sciences and mathematics; those with fewer credits qualify for an A.B. degree. Mathematics Department teaching certificate advisor appointments can be booked online. For School of Education details, contact the SoE Office of Student Services at 1228 SEB, 734.764.7563. Prospective teaching certificate candidates must consult with an advisor in either Mathematics or Education before starting their concentration program.
