The Residential College's Creative Writing and Literature Major merges dedicated writing practice with in-depth literary studies. This program focuses on nurturing students' creative talents through an ongoing process of composing, revising, and analyzing literature. Writing courses function as intimate workshops and tutorials where students receive personalized faculty guidance. Literature courses complement this training by deepening students' understanding of writing craft. As Creative Writing and Literature Majors, students produce fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction with faculty mentorship, often sharing their work in small seminar groups. The curriculum also examines writing techniques through literary analysis. Students choose to concentrate on fiction, poetry, or nonfiction early in their academic journey. Graduates establish careers as authors, editors, teachers, marketing specialists, and various other writing-focused professions. Annually, our alumni gain entry into prestigious graduate programs across diverse fields including arts, education, law, business, public administration, and social work - all disciplines that value strong writing abilities and innovative thinking.
