The Meteorology and Physical Oceanography (MPO) graduate program was established based on the concept that ocean and atmospheric processes follow comparable physical laws, offering valuable insights when examined together. The MPO curriculum equips students with specialized knowledge in both fields, training them to perform cutting-edge research through theoretical, observational, and computational methods. This program provides a solid base for investigating diverse subjects such as ocean-atmosphere interactions, global deep-water circulation, hurricanes, El Niño events, Madden-Julian Oscillations, and Earth's climate changes. Students can pursue either a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Master of Science (M.S.) degree, with typical completion times of 5 years for Ph.D. candidates and 2 years for M.S. students.
