Miami Law's Juris Doctor program offers an intensive full-time course of study blending challenging academics with practical legal skill development. This 88-credit program spans three academic years.
First-year students benefit from a distinctive orientation curriculum that builds technical legal proficiency as a springboard for grasping legal theory and substance. This foundational experience prepares students to examine how legal systems interact with political, economic, and social frameworks.
Maritime Law integrates federal and international regulations covering agreements, violations, and incidents involving navigable waterways. Students investigate admiralty law, coastal regulations, international maritime policies, and ocean law, with options to specialize through an LL.M. in Maritime Law. The program features instruction from distinguished professors and local maritime law practitioners, enhanced by Miami's status as home to cruise industry giants like Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. Our campus sits just minutes from PortMiami, the world's most active cruise terminal. Florida's position as the state with the highest number of registered recreational vessels makes it the perfect environment for maritime legal studies.
