For skilled pianists eager to explore piano pedagogy to advance both performance and teaching goals, this program offers an ideal opportunity. Alongside the DMA in Keyboard Performance and Pedagogy, students pursuing non-pedagogy degrees can opt for a 12-credit Cognate in this field.
The Frost School of Music's DMA in Keyboard Performance and Pedagogy requires 60 graduate credits beyond a Master of Music in piano-focused areas like solo performance, pedagogy, or collaborative piano. This program equips graduates for diverse careers including performing, research, and academic instruction.
True to our emphasis on hands-on learning, our Keyboard Performance and Pedagogy (KPED) program uniquely blends theory and practice. KPED students may study with any piano faculty member, while our adaptable curriculum allows personalized pedagogical training tailored to individual backgrounds and interests. We highly recommend choosing a 12-credit Cognate (like Music Theory, Musicology, or Music Education) to strengthen qualifications in today's competitive employment landscape.
