In the wake of COVID-19's global impact, the Global Health Studies (GHS) program equips students to navigate, contribute to, and shape our evolving post-pandemic world.
This interdisciplinary undergraduate major explores health through both local and global perspectives, covering medicine, prevention strategies, policy development, environmental factors, cultural influences, societal impacts, and research methodologies. Students can customize their academic journey through various pathways, preparing them for diverse post-graduation options such as medical or nursing programs, advanced research degrees, or careers in nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or private industry.
The Humanities Track examines fundamental aspects of human existence, exploring our experiences with wellness, disease, healthcare systems, and mortality. Medical professionals draw upon humanities to inform ethical decision-making, empathetic patient care, and understanding personal health narratives. Even those outside healthcare benefit from exploring how historical medical practices relate to contemporary challenges in our pandemic-altered world, including spiritual dimensions, grief processes, therapeutic approaches, and societal rebuilding.
Participants in this track thoroughly investigate health and medicine's historical and cultural dimensions through multiple perspectives including religious studies, philosophical frameworks, moral principles, gender dynamics, historical contexts, creative expressions in literature, visual arts, and musical traditions.
