The Sport and Leisure Management (undergraduate) and Sport Commerce (graduate) programs offer varied curricula that equip students with vital skills for careers in marketing, management, facility operations, event coordination, and other administrative roles within the dynamic sports and leisure sector. The sport management faculty, with their broad experience, emphasize bridging theory with real-world practice to ready students for industry demands. Flexible learning options include on-campus and online courses, complemented by hands-on experience through Memphis-area opportunities. Alumni have found success with professional teams, venues, events, university athletics, governing organizations, sports marketing firms, and community recreation groups.
Program goals include: (1) acknowledging the interdisciplinary scope of these fields; (2) training students for leadership roles in sports or hospitality; (3) comprehending research and theoretical foundations; and (4) appreciating diversity's importance in inclusive service delivery. The program requires 33 credit hours. The University of Memphis' Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management (KWS), named after Holiday Inns founder Kemmons Wilson, Sr., blends academic rigor with practical training in hospitality, resort, and tourism sectors while emphasizing global perspectives, diversity, and sustainability.
