This program aims to equip undergraduate students with the essential knowledge in mathematics, statistics, economics, and finance needed for actuarial careers. Participants will gain foundational skills in accounting, risk assessment, interest theory, and financial risk management using derivative instruments. Future actuaries must complete certification exams from the Society of Actuaries or Casualty Actuarial Society, which serve as key indicators of professional readiness. The University of Memphis' actuarial science curriculum specifically prepares students for the initial two certification tests: Exam P (covering probability and statistics fundamentals) and Exam FM (focusing on financial mathematics). We strongly advise students to attempt these exams before completing their degree, as passing both significantly enhances employment prospects.
