The Master of Music Education (Teaching Certification) program is designed for aspiring public school music educators, combining specialized music instruction with general education courses before culminating in a teaching apprenticeship.
This graduate-level pathway serves as the certification component of the University's music teacher preparation program. After earning the M.M. Ed. (Teaching Certification) degree, graduates can apply to the Massachusetts Department of Education for Initial Licensure, qualifying them as fully certified music instructors in the state.
This program particularly benefits students who completed their undergraduate studies elsewhere but hold either a comparable music education degree or a general music degree. The admissions process includes a transcript evaluation to identify any prerequisite undergraduate coursework required for full program acceptance.
