The BS/MS program in Mechanical Engineering enables exceptional undergraduates to earn both degrees with 9 fewer credits than pursuing them individually. Selection occurs in the spring semester of the junior year. Interested students must submit a graduate school application by May 1, exempt from GRE requirements and recommendation letters.
The Graduate Committee applies these standard criteria for candidate selection.
Minimum 3.0 GPA after completing 75 or more credit hours.
Positive faculty endorsements.
Requirements
Undergraduate degree requirements mirror the BS program, with BS/MS students taking three graduate courses as technical electives, an option already available to undergraduates. Graduate courses must earn a 'B' or higher to count toward both degrees. This dual counting reduces total credits from 153 (separate degrees) to 144 (combined program).
Thesis Option: Students meet all existing thesis-based MS program requirements. Additionally, they must complete MNE 570, Reading and Research, during the summer following their senior year to prepare for thesis completion the following spring.
Student must have a secondary and/or post-secondary transcript.
English Language Proficiency
All non-native speakers of English must demonstrate English language proficiency and are required to submit TOEFL (79), IELTS (6.5) or PTE (53) scores.
Application Deadline: Fall: July 15th, Spring: December 1st.
